Rocking Pop-of-Red Duck (Birdie35)
Rocking Pop-of-Red Duck (Birdie35)
6 3/4” tall x 14”long x 2 1/4” deep
Dyed maple plywood
Made of upcycled plywood and things I can find in my shop, each of these abstract bird sculptures are unique. Most of them aren’t supposed to represent a specific type of bird, but are mashups of different bird characteristics. As I make them, they tell me what they should look like and on what they want to perch. The Rocking Pop-of-Red Duck is not affixed to the red wedge base. If you tap on its tail, it rocks! I glue together multiple pieces of plywood to get the basic shapes. Then the final shaping takes place on the belt sander as I sand angles and facets into them to reveal the stripes of the plywood that help illustrate the beaks and feathers.
These Birdies look good as individuals or a flock.
